Privacy Policy
RedactBar detects secrets 100% locally on your Mac. No tracking: no identifiers, no usage events, no crash reports, no account. It makes exactly two kinds of network request, described below, and neither one ever carries your clipboard, files, or secrets.
What leaves your Mac
- License validation. When you activate a license and once a day afterwards, RedactBar sends your license key, an activation ID, and your Mac's name to our merchant of record, Polar (polar.sh), to confirm your license status.
- Update checks. About once a day, RedactBar asks updates.uresk.net whether a newer version exists. The request says which version of RedactBar you have and one word for its license state: in trial, licensed, trial ended, or license needs attention. We add that to a daily count per version and state — that count is all we keep. We don’t store your IP address or anything else that could tell your Mac apart from anyone else’s. Updates themselves still download from GitHub. You can turn off automatic update checks in RedactBar’s Settings, on the General tab (Automatic update checks); RedactBar also asks on its second launch whether to check automatically. With them off, it checks only when you click Check Now… or Check for Updates….
Nothing else is transmitted. Your clipboard contents, environment variable files, shell histories, and detected secrets NEVER leave your machine.
What stays on your Mac
- Your local allowlists and preferences, stored in your user's defaults.
- Your license key and trial anchor, stored securely in the macOS Keychain.
- Scanned shell history and .env file indexes, held in memory and discarded when the app quits.
Purchases
All payments are processed securely by Polar (polar.sh) as merchant of record. We never see or store your credit card information. After you buy, Polar shows you a discount code for our other apps. We send no other email.
